About the Film

Russia, early 2000s. Sasha, a homeless young man, is offered a strange deal: each evening, he must light a green lamp in the window of an apartment rented for him. There is no explanation, no apparent purpose — only the demand to keep the lamp burning. The arrangement is part of a wealthy man's experiment, designed to prove that a person deprived of purpose will eventually break. But instead of destroying Sasha, the apartment gives him something he has never had: time.

Alone and initially consumed by boredom, Sasha begins watching films, reading books and observing the world around him. What starts as entertainment gradually becomes an unexpected education. Films, literature, medical books and fragments of ideas encountered in everyday life awaken his curiosity and give him a new way of seeing himself and the world.

Sasha eventually enters medical school and becomes a surgeon. Years later, fate brings him face to face with the man who once treated his life as a game. The green lamp, once a symbol of humiliation and control, has acquired an entirely different meaning. The Green Lamp is a contemporary parable about dignity, perception, knowledge and the power to transform a life when meaning is discovered where none was intended.
