As Sapelo’s resident storyteller, matriarch and elder, Cornelia Walker Bailey is determined to preserve what remains of the unique community established by her ancestors. Influenced by powerful memories of her own youth, Cornelia shepherds her young sons toward adulthood. Although the two boys have inherited their mother’s love of Sapelo, they begin to clash with each other and the wider world.
