Two Free Community Movie Nights from the Ojai Film Festival
Young Frankenstein November 1 at Libbey Bowl
Kubo and the Two Strings, animated feature, November 7 at Arcade Plaza
For nineteen years, the Ojai Film Festival has brought some of the very best independent films to Ojai, along with many of their filmmakers. To thank the Ojai community for its support, the Festival is presenting two FREE movie nights.
The lead-off event to the 2018 Festival features the cult favorite and most wonderful Mel Brooks’ spoof on horror movies: YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. The film will be shown at the Libbey Bowl at 7 pm, Thursday, November 1. Hank Wynands, who built the sets for the film and worked with Mel Brooks on several other movies, will introduced the film with tidbits/behind the scene fun facts. Ojai residents are encouraged to come and picnic on the lawn above the bowl prior to the film. The Festival will have free coffee at the venue.
The second film we’ll show on the Arcade Plaza Lawn (behind the Arcade) on Wednesday, November 7 at 7 pm. It’s the academy award-nominated animated Japanese fairy tale titled KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS. Children will love this film. Everyone is welcome so bring a chair or blanket and enjoy this whimsical tale.
“Our patrons attend screenings and special events in two downtown venues,” said Jonathan Lambert, the Festival’s president, “and they spend time walking the streets, shopping in stores, eating in restaurants. and trying to find places to park. Although the Festival is one of Ojai’s major cultural events it can also be an inconvenience to some residents of our small city. In an effort to ‘pay back’ Ojai the Festival annually offers two free films held during Festival Week in two outdoor venues in the downtown area.”
The Festival is happy to bring quality films to Ojai, and hope local film lovers will enjoy these two free offerings. Seating is first come, first served.
