Summer is almost gone, and Anna and Sloane, both 13, gear up for a new year and a new school. Anna feels eager to leave childhood behind, but Sloane has her doubts about growing up. When some older kids derail a planned scooter trip to the county beach, Sloane must acknowledge her true feelings, putting her at odds with her best friend.
