Ojai Film Festival Ceremony Celebrates Actor Malcolm McDowell and Cinematographer Ellen Kuras ASC
Along with the Winning Filmmakers

Awards Brunch is Sunday starting at 10 am for brunch and ceremony at 11 am

This coming Sunday, November 4 the Ojai Film Festival will hold its Award Brunch and present awards to the winning filmmakers in eight categories, as well as Lifetime Achievement Award honorees, Ojai’s own actor Malcolm McDowell and cinematographer Ellen Kura, ASC. The brunch takes place in the Ojai Art Center Courtyard. The brunch will be catered by Home Kitchen of Ojai and chef Hector Orozco will make his signature crepes onsite along with other brunch items and mimosas. To enjoy the brunch, everyone is welcome to arrive at 10 am. Presentations begins at 11 am.

The ceremony this year is being emceed by actor/producer Phil Nemy. Presenters include: Karen Stellwagen awarding the trophy for Best Documentary Short; Cathy Karol-Crowther for Animation; Bruce Novotny for Best Original Screenplay; Catherine Ann Jones for Narrative Short; Jim Becket for Documentary Feature; Tom Eubanks for Narrative Feature; Steve Grumette presents the trophy for the Festival Theme Award, and Andy Gillman gives the Limelight Award for Best Student Film.

Lori Killam of Panavision will give the winner of the Best Student Film a $60,000 camera rental package prize. Panavision is a long-time sponsor of the festival, annually giving the Student Film winner this opportunity. Lori Killam will then present Ellen Kuras, ASC with the Life Achievement Award for a Cinematographer. Ms. Kuras is one of few female members of the American Society of Cinematographers, and a pioneer best known for her work in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. She has collaborated with directors such as Michel Gondry, Spike Lee, Sam Mendes, Jim Jarmusch, Rebecca Miller, Martin Scorsese and more. She is the three-time winner of the Award for Excellence in Dramatic Cinematography at the Sundance Film Festival.

International journalist Ivor Davis will present Malcolm McDowell with the Life Achievement Award for an Actor. In a career spanning over 50 years, McDowell has played varied film roles across different genres as a character actor. He gained early recognition for O Lucky Man! and his standout performance as Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick’s controversial A Clockwork Orange, a role that gave him world fame, and legendary status. McDowell is a treasured Ojai resident for many decades.

The public is invited to attend this intimate event for 100 people.

The cost is $24 and seating is limited.
