When infamous drug lord Christopher “Dudus” Coke was extradited to the United States, chaos broke out in West Kingston, Jamaica. While conventional wisdom attributes such violence to drugs, Last Street links Jamaica’s violent crime to toxic notions of masculinity rooted in gun culture. The film also profiles former gangsters who work as “violence interrupters” to transform Jamaica’s most dangerous neighborhoods.
