Film Screening: 4 pm, Ojai Art Center Theater
Demonstration of art techniques: 5:30 pm, Ojai Art Center Gallery

FILM: In a story completely depicted in oil painted animation, a young man (Armand) comes to the last hometown of painter Vincent van Gogh. His mission is to hand deliver the artist’s final letter, originally written to his now late brother, Theo, after multiple postal delivery attempts failed. Although disdainful of this seemingly pointless chore, Armand travels to Auvers-sur-Oise where a purported close companion to Vincent, a Dr. Gachet, lives. While waiting for the doctor to return from business, Armand meets many other villagers, who not only knew Vincent, but inspired his art. Armand becomes increasingly fascinated in the psyche and fate of Van Gogh as numerous suspicious details fail to add up. 94 min.

Golden Globes – Nomination: Best Motion Picture – Animated

DEMONSTRATION: Tiffany Mang and Charlene Motley, two of the artists that worked on the film, will demonstrate technique used while painting for Loving Vincent. They will discuss their experience working with 65 other artists in Gdansk, Poland; what paints were used; the workstations and how a painting came together. They will demo a scene in the film on a canvas and will show the application of thick paint with expressive brushstrokes in the style of Van Gogh.

CHARLENE MOSLEY

Born in Berlin, Charlene Mosley is a San Diego based artist and muralist. She received her BA in Studio Arts from San Diego State University with a minor in German Studies. Mosley’s current artworks discuss the 21st century media-driven society and its relationship to technology and nature; in oils and watercolors. She depicts painted collages of people in their everyday activities surrounded by plant life with an interplay of pixilation and expressive brushstrokes. Mosley has won various awards and scholarships, and has exhibited in national as well as international exhibitions.

The most recent show, “Perception,” took place in Gdansk with four other international artists also working on Loving Vincent. Currently, Mosley is a freelancer and independent artist working on several projects, such as murals, private commissions, and book illustrations for clients, as well as her personal work. She has painted murals at San Diego State University, Barrio Logan, Horton Plaza, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Los Angeles and Lake Forest.

Working on Loving Vincent, the first ever, fully-painted, Oscar Nominated feature film, was Charlene’s first time tapping into animation and called for an unforgettable experience she will never forget. Being part of the film was life changing and a motivation to keep pursuing her passion as an independent artist.
