Akiko Takakura escapes beatings and parental rejection through her love of painting. When atomic bombs detonate in Hiroshima, Akiko’s life is forever changed. Haunted by the memory of her parent’s deaths, Akiko receives their spirits during Obon and finally experiences fatherly love. Obon is a story about reconciliation in the words of one of Hiroshima’s last survivors.
