OFFSite Fundraiser Recap

August 17th marked our first fundraising event OFFSite featuring a film, Studio One Forever, and film inspired disco-themed after party with music provided by DJ Jon Riddell and photo booth and lighting by Sound Source at the Ojai Art Center. The event provided a spread of amazing bites and offered attendees libations to get the party in motion.

The film, a documentary about the rise of the gay disco scene in Los Angeleswas a historical look at civil rights, the cabaret that attracted talent glitterati, and a tribute to the survivors of the AIDS epidemic. Following the film, director Marc Saltarelli, producers and film subjects including the legendary comedian, songwriter, and LGBTQ activist Bruce Vilanch participated in a special Q&A session. The resonance of the film and feedback were resounding.

Says Sue Ferguson of Santa Paula: “Thank you again to those hosting this film.  It made me laugh and cry and care.  The individuals representing the film were most gracious and very welcoming which made the entire evening one to remember. I hope that OFF continues to expand its goal of providing such films and that you recognize all people in the community.”

Attendees hit the courtyard to celebrate the film and start the dance party. Local drag queen, Michelle Chakra, graced her presence on the rockin’ dance floor until 10pm. Festival fans bought tshirts and hats that featured the new logo to set the 25th Anniversay into gear.

We raised modest funds to continue to support our mission. More importantly, OFF accessed a new audience, established more partnerships and built excitement for the upcoming festival and renewed commitment to the Ojai community.
