A recently widowed professor (Walter) is diagnosed with a terminal illness that will rob him of sight and coherent thought. Unwilling to burden his son, who is moving to Geneva, Walter agrees to look into nursing homes. Then an encounter with a former colleague and a little girl convince Walter to adopt a radical solution to his dilemma.
