Women in Film Legacy Series

Published by Ojai Film Festival on

Women in Film is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting equal opportunities for women, encouraging creative projects by women, and expanding and enhancing portrayals of women in all forms of global media. Given that women comprise 50 percent of the population, WIF’s ultimate goal is to see the same gender parity reflected on and off screen. The Legacy Series was created to document the personal and creative worlds of exceptional women in Hollywood whose accomplishments paved the way for new generations of women working in the film and television industries.

This year WIF will offer two biographies of extraordinary actresses of ‘Old Hollywood,”
Penny Marshall and this year’s Festival Life Achievement Award winner Eva Marie Saint.

  • Carole Penny Marshall was an American actress, director, and producer. She came to notice in the 1970s for her role as Laverne DeFazio on the television sitcom Laverne & Shirley, receiving three nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for her portrayal.
  • Eva Marie Saint is American film and television actress known for bringing emotional depth and complexity to her roles. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for On the Waterfront, and was lauded for her performance in Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest. She received Golden Globe and BAFTA Award nominations for A Hatful of Rain and won a Primetime Emmy Award for the television miniseries People like Us.
