The Dreams of Al Capone Saturday, June 17th 7 pm
The Film Branch of the Ojai Art Center invites you to a screening of The Dreams of Al Capone, on Saturday, June 17th at 7 pm.
The screening is free, with optional donations to the Art Center. The Dreams of Al Capone is an experimental Fair Use film that transforms samples of existing films into a completely new story. Filmmaker Mitch Temple created the film by sampling over sixty films and other found footage sources to create his original story. Mitch’s edit removed all original audio and replaced it with dubbed dialogue he wrote and recorded with voice actor friends.
The film is dubbed into French with English subtitles. “I knew French could smuggle in more suspension of disbelief and add a sensuality to the film’s roughness,” Mitch said. “I didn’t expect the additional benefit it brought in perforating some of the ideology portrayed in the film.” Read Mitches statement about the film.
Mitch Temple
Mitch Temple is an artist and filmmaker who lives and works in Los Angeles. His most recent project Los Angeles, a feature film about a mute who believes God is calling her to save the baby Jesus, screened in our 2021 festival.
Mitch received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. His artwork and films have shown in galleries, museums, and alternative spaces throughout the country.
His two dimensional work includes drawing, painting, and digital art. He enjoys tools and processes that force him beyond his intentions and assumptions. Mitch used to paint from film stills, and that inspired him to create video and film pieces of his own. He’s created a number of short films, and two experimental features Limbo and The Light, as well as a short documentary on poet, art critic, and professor Bill Berkson entitled, The Air You Breathe.
Mitch plans to attend and offer a Q&A after the screening.
